In this interview, we speak with the artist Waritsara Yui Karlberg from Bournemouth about her music, her multicultural background, and her experience of being transgender in Britain. She shares how identity, culture, and creativity all meet in her work, and how music has become both her voice and her refuge.
Born in Sweden, Yui moved to England at the age of seven, speaking only Swedish and Thai. Growing up between languages and cultures shaped how she sees the world and how she creates. As the founder of the indie-pop trio Ethereal & The Elevated, she blends emotion, storytelling, and sound into music that reflects both struggle and hope. Yui lived as a man until the age of 31, and today she openly lives as herself, using her journey to encourage others to be brave, follow their dreams, and live truthfully.
